National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is a statutory body of Indian government set-up under the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993 in 1995 is to formally oversee standards, procedures and processes in the Indian education system.

The Institute of Education & Research (IER), which conducts various courses & programs in education, is a highly significant part of the Faculty of Humanities (FH) of this prosperous university. The various courses are the following --- B. Ed (Innovative); Integrated B.A.B. Ed; Integrated B.Sc. B. Ed; B. El. Ed; M. Ed; and M.Phil. & Ph.D. (Education). The m.ed course lasts for two years and the b.ed (innovative) takes only 1.5 years, while the remaining courses (excepting doctoral research courses in education) are designed to take four years. The integrated b.a b.ed and the integrated b.sc b.ed are also hugely popular among those students who are determined to enter into the field of teaching. The course of b.el.ed is also quite popular; while the m.ed & b.ed admissions to MU are highly sought-after. The PhD course in education generally takes three or more years.
